Air Amplifiers

EXAIR Air amplifiers are inexpensive devices with virtually no maintenance that can convey fumes, smoke, lightweight materials and move a high volume of air for cooling, blowoff and drying applications. They use the “Coanda effect” which entrains a large amount of surrounding air using only a small amount of compressed air. The effect is an amplification of up to 17 times the airflow or more (depending on the size) with reduced noise levels.

Air Movers or Air Amplifiers are annular units that entrain air from the back as well as downstream and are excellent flow amplifiers.  The force produced for blow off goes down as the diameter goes up but for cooling, they are excellent and far more effective than air nozzles.  Because air is entrained from the back, they are also used for venting applications.  As mentioned previously, there has to be a “balance” between airflow amplified and velocity.  An Air Amplifier will have an air amplification ratio (air out right at the exit/air input from the compressed air supply) from 6 to 15 to perform properly (6 being a small amplifier and 15 for larger sizes).  Any higher ratio, because you are then entraining more “still” atmospheric air, would slow down the velocity so much that your blow off force would be very ineffective, and without adequate velocity, you will not get efficient cooling. So if you see claims of high amplification ratios and high velocity simultaneously, it is wise to be dubious.

Applications

  • Vent welding smoke
  • Cool hot parts
  • Dry wet parts
  • Clean machined parts
  • Distribute heat in ovens/molds
  • Ventilate confined areas
  • Dust collection
  • Exhaust tank fumes

EXAIR’s Adjustable Air Amplifier™ Kits include everything you need to simplify installation. They include an Adjustable Air Amplifier, shim set, filter separator and pressure regulator (with coupler). Adjustable Air Amplifiers pull in large volumes of surrounding air to produce high volume, high velocity outlet flows. Utilizing the Coanda effect, a basic principle of fluid dynamics, Air Amplifiers become a simple, low cost way to circulate air, move smoke, fumes, and light materials. Force and flow for the Adjustable Air Amplifier is changed by turning the exhaust end (with the knurled ring loose) to open or close the continuous air gap. When desired performance is obtained, the knurled ring can be tightened to lock the flow at that setting. Available in aluminum or in stainless steel for food service, higher temperatures (400°F/204°C), and corrosive applications.

Adjustable Air Amplifier Deluxe Kits include an Adjustable Air Amplifier, EFC (Electronic Flow Control), shim set, filter separator and pressure regulator (with coupler).
